      Under oppholdet i Finnmark ble pater Hell kjent med Jens Eriksen Grøn, som var sokneprest i Kjelvik. Grøn hadde gitt uttrykk for at han ønsket seg vekk fra soknekallet, og Hell lovte å gå i forbønn for ham hos kong Christian 7., noe han kanskje også fikk gjort, for 30. oktober 1769 ble Jens Grøn utnevnt til sokneprest til Rudkøbing i Danmark. Om dette er riktig, var det ganske sensasjonelt ettersom det var dødsstraff for jesuitter som ble påtruffet i kongeriket, men Christian 7. hadde allerede ved å engasjere pater Hell, suverent satt både den danske og norske lov til side.
